THE LOST DAUGHTER (2021)

"The hardest things to talk about are the ones we ourselves can't understand."  -Elena Ferrante, The Lost Daughter Hello everyone! I'm back this month (or rather, year) with a brand new release, Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut The Lost Daughter, adapted from a novel of the same title. I feel like I should've waited to write the post until I read the original book, but I simply couldn't wait for it as I loved the movie adaptation. Now I'm writing this post with the e-book open in another tab, reading a chapter or two between breaks. Hopefully I can finish reading it by the time I finish writing this, which is going to be interesting... Thanks for joining me this week and I hope you enjoy reading the post! So, a few chapters turned into almost thirty, and before I knew it I found myself having finished the entire book. It was really, really  well written, and I suggest you read it before you watch the film - because I kind of regret not doing so. B...

NIGHT ON EARTH (1991)

BLIND WOMAN:  I'm just like you. I drink, I eat, I taste things. I listen to music. I feel music. I do whatever I want. I even go to the movies. PARIS DRIVER:  The movies? And what do you see at the movies? BLIND WOMAN:  Sometimes I feel the film. Hello everyone! I'm back this week with my new favourite film, Night On Earth by Jim Jarmusch! There's absolutely no reason why I would dislike this film, it had everything I wanted! Taking the viewer from the vibrant streets of New York City to the quiet ones in Helsinki, it was such an enjoyable journey and I can't wait to share my thoughts with you! Thanks for being here and I hope you enjoy reading the post! Before diving into the characters, I'd like to give a little background about the film. Night On Earth is written, directed, and produced by Jim Jarmusch. The film tells the story of five different cab drivers on the same night from different locations on Earth - which are Los Angeles, New York City, Paris, Rome, a...

PARIS IS BURNING (1990)

DORIAN COREY: I always had hopes of being a big star. But as you get older, you aim a little lower. Everybody wants to make an impression, some mark upon the world. Then you think, you've made a mark on the world if you just get through it, and a few people remember your name. Hello everyone! I'm back this week with the brilliant Paris Is Burning by Jennie Livingston! As we're fast approaching the end of Pride Month, I couldn't think of a better film to close the month as well as my special series consisting of LGBTQ+ cinema. To read my previous posts of the series, I invite you to visit the last three posts (too lazy to attach a link) and give them a look! Now, let's talk about our film/documentary for the week and explore its glamorous characters more in-depth! Paris Is Burning is a documentary that focuses on New York's drag scene in the 1980s. This underrepresented community was shown beautifully along with glamorous balls, stylish voguing, and most importan...
